The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is looking for an experienced, innovative law enforcement professional withthe highest integrity to serve as the Chief of Investigations.The Chief of Investigations, reporting to the District Attorney, plans, organizes, and manages the activities of the Bureau ofInvestigations; supervises internal affairs investigations; and oversees the more sensitive, complex, or difficult investigations. The District Attorney Investigator classification series is utilized in the Bureau of Investigations, which is headed by the Chief of Investigations. The Bureau of Investigations is divided into six divisions: Major Crimes, FinancialCrimes, Public Aid Investigation, General Investigation, Family Protection and Special Investigation.As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological examination. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one (1) of the following two (2) options:
OPTION 1:
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or universitysystem.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid public law enforcement investigative experience, two (2) years which must havebeen at a supervisory level.
OPTION 2:
Education: Completion of sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university that is acceptable within theUnited States’ accredited college or university system.
Experience: Six (6) years of full-time, paid public law enforcement investigative experience, two (2) years which must havebeen at a supervisory level.
In addition to the above listed options, candidates must also possess the following:
Certificate: Possession of a valid Advanced Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Justice, theCommission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
License: Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.Other: Under California Penal Code Section 830.1, the Chief of Investigations is defined as a Peace Officer. Therefore, candidates must be able to meet all pre-employment as well as ongoing peace officer status requirements pursuant to federal, state and local legislation.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one of the processes listed below:
Oral Examination – An oral examination includes a panel consisting of at least two members within a similar field of expertise as the vacancy. Candidates are asked structured questions and must respond orally to allow the panel to evaluate the specific qualifications of each applicant.If required, the oral examination will be administered in an online format via the Spark Hire platform.
Certify Without Examination – In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12months), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
